I spent a day at the Sydney Fish Market awhile back and I’m glad to be able to put in a basic review and upload a couple of pics. I do intent to review single restaurants and cafes at the market in the future.
I arrived at the Sydney Fish Market in the late morning on a Saturday. It was a beautiful day and I enjoyed the walk down from Glebe where I was staying for a few days. The scenery is enjoyable especially if you like to see fishing boats, Yachts and smell the sea air.
The first thing I noticed that I didn’t like to much was the crowds of people. In fact when I got inside I flt like I was in sardine can, mind the pun! I walked around and had a look at what was on offer. Most of the prices for fish were a little cheaper than what you might pay at the Supermarket but you could probably buy cheaper and as good fish at your local fish shop. But at least you know you can get fresh Australian fish here. You also have a large selection of seafoods to choose from including Snapper, crayfish, Prawns, Oysters, Mussels etc.
I decided to walk around to the north side restaurants where it was slightly less chaotic but still quite bad. I ordered some snapper and fries. The food tasted fresh but it wasn’t cheap and it probably would have tasted a lot better if it was hot.
I would not be in a hurry to go back to the Sydney Fish Market to buy a meal and it would be on a week day next time, not a weekend. I would probably be going there just to pick up some fresh seafood that I would prefer to take home and cook myself.
