I recently decided to have lunch here and I had gone past it a number of times in the past when traveling through to Raymond Terrace. Located in the village area of Heatherbrae near other fast food outlets it is easy to see from the highway.
I walked in and found middle aged woman to be friendly, helpful and patient despite it being quite busy. I could not see any standard chunky steak pie but only mince. So I requested the steak & mushroom pie assuming it would be proper chunky steak. I was wrong, when I sat down and started to eat the pie I found it was minced steak. You do have free unlimited tomato or b-b-q sauce with your meal. The pie actually tasted quite nice anyway, the pastry was very good, fresh and the pie was hot of course. I basically got what I would expect from a dedicated pie food cafe despite the mince steak thing.
I enjoyed the coffe but what I really enjoyed the most that day was the sausage rolls, they tasted great, like I remmeber as a kid so I went back for another. The first pie didn’t fill me up either. The coffee was also quite good.
I would definitely eat there again but I would ask to see if I could order proper chunky steak in one of the pies. The atmosphere and views are also quite enjoyable. This would be a good place to bring a family for lunch.
