I went to the mid city plaza Oporto in Sydney city today for lunch. The funny thing with Oporto is that I have been going there for many years but have only ever ordered burgers. Today I opted for something a little different and something I should have ordered many times before, that is chicken + Chips. Yes I decided to be different and daring and too the plunge in taking on a quarter of Oporto chicken with chips and a coke as in a meal deal for $8.

I was pleasantly delighted with my meal, it was absolutely delicious with or without the accompanying chili sauce I selected to come with my order. You can select from a variety of the Oporto sauces. The meal was great, the chicken was juicy, crispy, a good size and tasty. The fries were ok too. I will definitely be ordering more chicken meals like this. Let's just hope they can serve organic farm chicken in the future....

I was very disappointed as I wrote on Twitter tonight. I went to the George St Pizza hut and ordered a Feta+ Spinach Pizza plus with Chili & Pepperoni. My pizza had hardly any spinach, it was hard and didn’t taste nice. I actually complained but was told that was how they are instructed to make the pizza. But I said I could hardly see the spinach and I was told it shrinks when cooking. My gosh, I think they need to use a little more spinach if that is one of the main ingredients, it was more like some tiny sprinkling of herbs.

<strong>Oporto Hunter St? Newcastle, NSW</strong>
Very friendly staff, nice food but a little crowded seating. Only Oporto in the main part of the city in Newcastle so it's popular. I ate a new Fiesty burger but had wished I had ordered to regular Oporto burger as I enjoy the special flavour from the chilli sauce.

<strong>Oporto Bathurst St, Sydney</strong>
This centrally located Oporto has friendly staff and the food tasted as good as ever. Clen and tidy but quite close to the busy part of Sydney.
Here are some pics... <a href="http://www.australiadining.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/DSC_0001.jpg" rel="nofollow"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-167" title="Oporto Bathurst St, Sydney" src="http://www.australiadining.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/DSC_0001-300x225.jpg" alt="Bathurst St, Sydney" width="300" height="225" /></a>

This evening I revisited the Pizza Hutt here in central Sydney so I thought I should give an update here....

I walked up the stairs to see a number of people waiting for their pizza and I was happy to note that most of them were waiting for takeout orders. The service had considerable improved since I was last here as I was asked what I would like to order. I was surprised and delighted to see a much more improved menu although not so happy to see the prices had risen considerably. So much so that I even asked what the buffet (all you can eat deal) was. That was $19+ while the ordered pizza starts at $14+ now.

I was very happy to see that one of my own favorite pizza toppings of spinach, feta and onions was now on the menu. So I ordered that with Ham as well. The staff ushered me to my seat. I found the table to be right in the path of an ongoing stream of people walking to and forth to the buffet etc so I requested to sit in the quieter corner and that was no problem as the waitresses attended to helping me transition to my preferred seat.

It was pretty good all round besides the B-B-Q style pizza base sauce used sparingly. If it was not such a cool night then the pizza would probably taste a lot better as it was cooling down rapidly and by the time I got to the last piece it was dead cold.

I enjoyed the family and friendly, relaxed but busy atmosphere of the restaurant, the staff were helpful and friendly while the food was pretty good all round despite it been below average temperature inside and out.

I actually had a late breakfast at this joint a few weeks ago and it was the most deplorable dining experience I have ever encountered.

First off I sat at a table outside and ordered an all day breakfast with poached eggs. I also found the backpacker waitresses friendly too but I did wonder how much they were been paid, probably something very low and I had noticed the waitresses are always changing which says a lot of this place. I had eaten here a couple of times before and although I never found the food much to rave about. But when your hungry for breakfast and this place is on the way to the mall then it was convenient to drop into.

I also noticed a lot of flies which usually means rotten food in the kitchen. When I got my food it was looking very sloppy and under cooked. I then found the eggs to be actually raw, I'm not talking about under cooked but these were probably placed into a pot of hot water and then instantly served.

So I proceeded to walk to the checkout where the chef or cook could be viewed with the open kitchen. I told them the eggs were raw. The cook which looked to be the owner, an older Italian man was very rude and arrogant. He told me next time to ask for well done eggs and obviously decided it was all my fault. Ge gave no apology or nothing just plain rudeness. I told him that these eggs were raw and I had ordered cooked eggs. After his wife intervened and told me that they would fix it up I went back and sat down waiting for my half eaten breakfast to return with cooked eggs.

My breakfast came back 5 minutes later and the low life had not even cooked me a new breakfast but had even cooked the same eggs again. It was absolutely disgusting and the bacon was also half raw and you could feel the grease which stank fall off the fat. Anyway I decided I would not complain further and I walked to the checkout to pay my bill and get out of there. Well guess what, yes the owner started attacking me (after I paid). First he said were the eggs ok now? I said yes thanks (even though I was not happy). He then said that next time I should ask for my eggs to be well done and not complain. I said to him next time I would expect cooked eggs (even though I had no intentions of going back to this disgusting hole). He then got quite angry and told me next time I should cook my own. I told him that he had no idea on how to cook and that I was once also a chef and this food was the worst I had seen. I left without taking it further but I should have asked him why there was so many flies and what the strange smells were coming from the kitchen? I could see the fridges and kitchen and it looked very unclean and unhygienic. I could only imagine all the rotten food in the fridge, something you would see in Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares.

Be warned, this place is the most disgusting and unhygienic place I have ever eaten in with an extremely rude owner. If you want food poisoning or a short life then eating here would help with that.
